lyrics
It was called big island for practicality.
The cheapest way to get there was through cargo ferry.
An alleyway hostel called parrot,
Was essentially a cupboard with a bed in it.
I went for a walk through the rocks as the sun set.
It got dark, I should’ve been scared because I’m a solo female traveller.
But I don’t care, I found some stairs that someone had carved in the sandstone.
I was writing a postcard to my family,
When a fisherman set up on the jetty next to me.
He asked “você gosta de cerveja?”
I said “sí claro pero no contigo.”
I was looking for some bread in the grocery,
When a kid came over to help me.
He use an app on his phone to ask,
If I’d like to smoke marijuana afterwards.
Apparently language ain’t no barrier.
For men to ask me on spontaneous adventures.
You’re sweet but let me be a platonic presence here.
So I helped him fish for crabs unsuccessfully.
I don’t matter
Nothing matters
When you’re sleeping
When you’re alone.
I can’t fathom
How small I am
It makes the pain
Ease away.
